MAJ Elroy W. Volberding, USAF (RET) "Roy", 82, of West Palm Beach, passed away January 12, 2021. He was born on November 10, 1938, in Chicago, Illinois, the son of the late Elroy and Evelyn Volberding (later Johnston). Roy graduated from Libertyville High School in 1956 and received his Bachelor's of Science in Electrical Engineering from Arizona State University, and his Master's of Science in Electrical Engineering from Air Force Institute of Technology.
Roy was a career Air Force Officer, retiring in 1978 after 20 years of service. He spent most of his service stationed overseas through various roles; to include: Base Commander in Greece. He then worked in the government contract space program until his eventual full retirement. He was involved in many notable projects such as the Star Wars program under President Ronald Reagan, and directly with the DEA on the war on drugs in Latin America.
