John B. Nora, Jr., 96, of Palm Beach Gardens, died August 20, 2018. Mr. Nora had been a resident of Palm Beach County since 1925. He was a son of John, Sr. and Rose Braido Nora, and was born in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Mr. Nora was president of Nora Construction Co. which had the distinction of being located in the Town of Palm Beach 57 years. This was longer, with the same original ownership, of any other construction company there at the time. The numerous residences, churches, and commercial buildings in Palm Beach County are testament to his life's work. One of his most notable achievements was the relocation of the historic Royal Poinciana Chapel from the Flagler Museum grounds to 60 Cocoanut Row where it now stands in Palm Beach. A Palm Beach High School Class of 1939 graduate, Mr. Nora received his B.S. degree from the University of Florida in Gainesville. He was a member of the Sigma Phi Epsilon fraternity. After his completion of service as a Lieutenant(jg) in the United States Navy during World War II, Mr. Nora re-entered the University of Florida and graduated in 1949, with High Honors, with a degree in Building Construction. Nora Construction was established in April 1949 when Mr. Nora returned to the Palm Beach area permanently. A lifelong member of the West Palm Beach Fishing Club since 1938, fishing remained Mr. Nora's favorite sport. He was an Eagle Scout in the Boy Scouts of America; past president of the Palm Beach Lions Club and the Islander's Club; past board member of the Rehabilitation Center for Children and Adults in Palm Beach and the Palm Beach Building Adjustments and Appeals Board. Survivors include Barbara Ray, his wife of 60 years; daughter, Nancy (James) Pollard of Gainesville; step-daughter, Melanie Davis of San Francisco, California; four grandchildren, Mary Pollard, Hadley, Thomas, and Davis Ryan. He is also survived by his niece, Cheryl Nora, and nephews, John, Michael, and James Nora. A private family interment was held at Hillcrest Memorial Park, West Palm Beach, on Friday, August 24, 2018.
