On April 21, 2023, Mark Worrell Anderson, age 62, died unexpectedly while bodysurfing in the ocean in Florida, having the time of his life with two of his brothers.

Mark was the third of four boys born to William Heartly Anderson and Margaret Worrell Anderson in Jackson, Mississippi on September 4, 1960.  Mark lived in 6 states in 10 years, as the family moved for job transfers.   He attributed the frequent childhood moves to his ability to comfortably engage anyone in conversation and to make friends easily.  Mark attended elementary and high school in Hingham, Massachusetts.

Mark started his college career at Duke University in 1978.  He interrupted his education to marry his childhood sweetheart, Christine, when he was 20 and she was 17.  They were married for 42 years.  One of Mark’s proudest accomplishments was supporting Christine through college and law school.  He was an amazing car salesman during those years, selling 30 cars in one month.

In 1988, Mark moved to Manchester, New Hampshire when Christine got her first job as a lawyer.  He completed his education at UNH.  Mark was a software engineer, working for many years at Cabletron and then at Autodesk.  He was self-employed at the time of his death, developing educational software.

Mark’s greatest passion was his family.  He and Christine raised two sons in Manchester, Maxwell and Samuel.  Mark coached his sons on many soccer and basketball teams.  Tutoring math clubs and teaching Sunday school, he was active in his children’s lives.

Named after his mother, Mark shared a love of art and nature with her, which he instilled in his children.  Visiting art museums and botanical gardens in nearly every city they visited, Mark invited his children to share his love of all things beautiful.

The Episcopal Church was a part of the Anderson family culture that Mark embraced and continued throughout his life. A cradle Episcopalian, Mark met his future wife at a Massachusetts Episcopal summer camp when he was 17.  Mark joined Grace Episcopal Church in 1988, where he was active leading the youth group, teaching Sunday school and serving on the property committee.

Predeceased by his mother, Margaret, Mark is survived by his father, William of Darien, Connecticut; Mark’s wife, Christine of Manchester, New Hampshire; his son, Maxwell, of Seattle, Washington; his son, Samuel, of New York, New York; his brother, Oz, and his wife, Cindy, of Cameron Park, California; his brother, Jeffrey, and his wife, Karin of Hingham, Massachusetts; his brother, Daniel, and his wife, Julia of Stamford, Connecticut and 16 nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.

The celebration of Mark’s life will be at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, where Mark was most recently a member, 7 North Mast Road, Goffstown, New Hampshire, on Sunday, April 30, 2023 at 2:00.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church.  All are invited to a reception following the service at 3:30 at the Bedford Village Inn Great Hall, 2 Olde Bedford Way, Bedford, New Hampshire 03110.

Mark was a truly joyful soul.  Always ready to tell a story.  Always ready to laugh. The world will be a bit less bright without him.
