Oscar Luis Sanchez was born on a Tuesday, January 9, 1940, in Guanica, Puerto Rico. He was born the son of Ramona Pabon and Juan Sanchez. The youngest of a brood of 8, his siblings are Gloria, Carmen, Olga, Isis, America, Joey and Tony.
Ramona and Juan left their home in beautiful Puerto Rico and moved the family to Brooklyn, New York in 1943 where the family would remain for decades.
Oscar proudly served his country with the U.S. Army at the age of 17. Specializing in welding and blacksmith he utilized his skills to help build railroads in Korea. For his dedicated services, Oscar was awarded medals for his marksmanship skills and earned his sharpshooter badge. Oscar was a proud American and valued his constitution and right as a citizen.
When his military service was complete, Oscar pursued a career in banking, leading him to a career in Checking Administration. His colleages and peers will remember his endless positivity, his humility and fierce work ethics. After 20 years of running multiple check cashing locations throughout New York City, he retired as Chief of Operations.
Oscar is survived by his wife Raquel Sanchez, his children Lenore Marie Rubin, Oscar Jeffery Sanchez, Juan Luis Sanchez, Lynda Maria Sanchez, and Jennifer Sanchez.
From Brooklyn to the Bronx to Upstate NY and Yonkers Oscar and Raquel retired in Palm Beach.
Oscar was a proud and loving husband, dad and grandpa.
Oscar was beloved and will truly be missed by all of those who he came in contact with. He was a lover of music, cars, history, literature and people. He belived knowledge is power and never stopped learning. Above all, Oscar loved life and adored his family.
