Deacon Ira Sawney, 80, of West Palm, died peacefully on Wednesday, August 19, 2020, in his residence, with his family by his side.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Leslyn; and his children, Margaret, Rosalind, Michael Sawney, Audrey (Daryl) Sawney-Young, Nigel Sawney; his sister, Eulene (Whitney) Alfred; brothers, Eugene (Lisda) Sawney, Juan, Jose, and Ricardo Acosta; and countless other family members including nieces, nephews, cousins, Aunts, Uncles, and numerous friends.

Deacon Sawney was born December 7, 1939, in Grenada. He was ordained a Deacon on May 11, 1975, at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, St. Georges, Grenada. His next assignment took him to the Church of Our Lady of Fatima, Battle Hill, St. Andrew, Grenada. From there, Deacon Sawney transferred to the United States where his first assignment was at Holy Cross Roman Catholic Church, Brooklyn, New York. After he completed that assignment, Deacon Sawney, along with his family, moved to West Palm Beach in 1989 where he began his present assignment at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, West Palm Beach.

A Funeral Mass will be concelebrated at 10:00 AM Wednesday, August 26, 2020, at St. John Fisher Catholic Church, 4001 North Shore Drive, West Palm Beach, with Most Reverend Gerald M. Barbarito, D.D., J.C.L., Bishop of Palm Beach, presiding. Committal Services and entombment will follow at Our Lady Queen of Peace Cemetery, Royal Palm Beach. PLEASE OMIT FLOWERS.
