Ways you can honor Carl's memory:
Carl E. Peterson, 76, of West Palm Beach, peacefully passed away on October 16, 2021, at St. Mary's Medical Center in West Palm Beach. Carl was born November 26, 1944, in Waterbury, Connecticut. He attended the University of Connecticut and Boston Architectural College, graduating with a degree in Engineering and in Architecture. Upon graduation he joined the prestigious architectural firm of Sasaki Associates in Watertown, Massachusetts where he held the position of Senior Associate for the next 15 years. Carl's high-level position at Sasaki took him all over the world, both designing projects, and supervising their construction; a dual role to which he was particularly well-suited given the breadth of his Engineering background. Following his employment with Sasaki, Carl and his good friend, Richard Griffin, formed their own firm called Peterson/Griffin Architects, which they located in Waltham, Massachusetts. Carl held the position of Principal in the firm for the next 30 years, a tenure which included the design responsibility for some of the most well-known buildings and residential developments in America. Carl developed a love for golf and took every opportunity to play the game that took him all around the world. And while travelling, he found a piece of heaven-Dingle, Ireland, which he would visit every chance he could. During his retirement, Carl and his wife, Mary, moved to Wellington, Florida in 2000, and then to West Palm Beach in 2006. There, Carl became President of the Board of Directors of the Placido Mar Condominium Association-a position he held for 10+years. He also became active in a number of community involvements, which included becoming president of the Northwood Harbor Association; a member of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee for West Palm Beach; a member of the Community Redevelopment Agency Advisory Board (CRA); and a board member of the North End Coalition of Neighborhoods (NCON). Carl is survived by his wife of 21 years, Mary Murphy; his former wife, Mary Jo Peterson; their daughter, Sara Peterson (Richard) Willis of Lexington, Massachusetts; and his two beloved grandchildren, Gracie and Ava. It is often said that a light that burns twice as bright, only lasts half a long. Carl's light burned with an intensity that shone brightly his entire life, and was only extinguished by his passing. He left the world a better place than he found it, and did so with a passion and commitment rarely seen. He will be missed by all who had the good fortune to have known him.
