Ways you can honor Stephanie's memory:
“Make it a great day!” Stephanie Spence Diamond, 71, of West Palm Beach, passed away peacefully on December 15, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Known for her bright smile, infectious laugh, selfless nature, and unwavering willingness to lend a helping hand, Stephanie brought joy to all who knew her. Her joie de vivre was evident in every aspect of her life.
Stephanie Louise Spence was born on June 29, 1953, in Boston, Massachusetts, to the late Howard Hunter Spence and Mary Louise Sheehan. She is survived by her devoted husband of 37years, Gregg Diamond; her sisters, Marie and Deb (Robin); her niece Katie (Don) and nephew Frank (Alexandra); her beloved nieces Tiffany, Taryn, Shannon, Colleen, and Alyson; her maternal uncle Stephen Sheehan; and many other cherished family members and dear friends—including the close-knit “Club 30” - as well as esteemed colleagues.
Stephanie attended the Girls’ Latin School (now Boston Latin Academy), graduating in the Class of 1970, and later earned a Bachelor of Arts in French Studies from UMass Amherst. Her love for French culture led her to study abroad at the University of Grenoble, France, as a foreign exchange student. She was accepted into the Peace Corps but ultimately chose to embark on a remarkable career in public service. For 40 years, Stephanie dedicated herself to improving the lives of others as a highly skilled and widely respected Human Resources professional. Throughout her career, Stephanie worked for several federal agencies, including the General Services Administration, the Department of Health and Human Services, the Small Business Administration, the Department of Energy, and the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), where she retired. A true generalist, she excelled in employee relations, executive resources, staffing, policy development, and management advising. A visionary in her field, she contributed to groundbreaking HR programs and policies and mentored countless individuals who continue to make a difference today. No matter how herculean the challenge, Stephanie faced every obstacle with finesse, creativity, and determination.
In 1987, Stephanie married Gregg, and together they explored the worlds of racing, cultural arts, and fine cuisine. They traveled annually to Indiana for the Indy 500 and to Montreal for the Grand Prix, forming lasting friendships in the racing community. A passionate Francophile, Stephanie’s love for the French language, arts, and culture shaped many of her life’s experiences. She and Gregg honeymooned in Martinique and returned several times to celebrate their joyous union. One of their most treasured adventures was a visit to Paris that included a champagne toast at the Australian Embassy. Her passion for the French language remained a lifelong pursuit, and she continued her studies as a member of a French language club in West Palm Beach. In retirement, Stephanie was an active volunteer including an election judge, Inner City Innovators and served as President and member of The Classics at Bear Lakes HOA. She worked countless hours dedicating her life in service for others.
In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to Inner City Innovators, a cause dedicated to dealing hope and empowering inner city youth.
As Stephanie would often say, “Make it a great day!” Her family and friends carry this sentiment forward in her honor.
